Viestenz-Smith Mountain Park Kids Exploration Zone

Located in the foothills of Loveland, Colorado, The Viestenz-Smith Kids Exploration Zone sits in the valley of the Big Thompson River as part of the Viestenz-Smith Mountain Park. After a devastating flood in 2013, the park re-opened in 2018 following significant improvements including realigning the river to ensure that the property would be safe from future flooding.

  • The Kids Exploration Zone is designed using reclaimed natural materials including stone boulders,
trees and stumps to encourage physical activity, creativity and imagination. Several key features
include a Log Challenge course with large logs and stumps organized to create varying levels of difficulty for all ages, multiple wood stump reading circles for learning and group activities, a gathering tipi, a boulder berm for seating and climbing, and clustered wood stumps of varying heights for climbing. The design of the Kids Exploration Zone is a collaboration between Didier Design Studio and Landwise.
