Residential Projects

We work hand-in-hand with residential clients who value creativity, connection to nature, and a unified expression of architecture, site, and landscape. We believe that no project is too small to have value and impact, and our residential work ranges from large estates and rural landscapes to small gardens and backyards. Based in Colorado with deep knowledge of our unique western region, we listen carefully to our clients’ aspirations to inform designs that respond to terrain, climate, and context. Our design approach balances simplicity and economy with bold, expressive gestures in the landscape, transforming the way you experience your home. Just like our clients, each project is unique. Explore our residential design portfolio below to learn more about how we work.

We bring your aspirations to life through a collaborative, client-centered design experience rooted in creativity, sustainability, and connection to nature.

Our Process

  • We begin by meeting with you on site to better understand the project extents, character, elements to be included, and design opportunities and constraints.

  • Following our initial consultation we create early concept sketches, exploring multiple options and studies for you to respond to. We meet to receive your input and together define a preferred direction for the design.

  • Depending on your project’s level of detail and complexity, we tailor our design scope to provide you with the technical documents needed for construction and installation. We provide site layout, grading, materials selection, planting, and modeling or detailing of unique structures or features while being efficient with your budget.

  • We follow projects through construction observation, especially for selection and placement of boulders and stone features, procuring specimen trees, and reviewing plant material and layout. We advocate for our clients to ensure that each project is implemented with care.

Why we’re different.

Celebrating the unique qualities of western landscapes, we work with natural materials and striking plant combinations to create designs that are resilient, artful, and deliberate.

Collaborative, iterative design process: We engage with you throughout the design process, sharing multiple options and studies for you to respond to. We work fluidly in a range of graphic styles, from hand-sketching and physical models, to digitally-rendered models and images, to technical details and construction documents. We help you visualize and test the design before construction to ensure we are aligning the design with your aspirations.

Balancing simplicity and economy with bold, expressive gestures: We balance generosity with restraint in our designs, acknowledging that a successful landscape is one that is enjoyable and practical to maintain. We work collaboratively with you to identify where to create some beautiful focal moments in the landscape, complimented by other areas intentionally kept more simple.

Proactive communication: We maintain strong communication with our clients and projects partners throughout the duration of each project. Relying on knowledge gained through our extensive project experience, we help you navigate the steps between initial vision and completion.

Our specialized knowledge.

Colorado landscapes present unique opportunities and constraints, and we bring tremendous value to our clients by guiding them toward practical, tested design solutions informed by our years of practice in our region.

Negotiating complex topography: We shape topography to integrate architecture, site, and landscape as one experience. We understand how to work with challenging topography and split-level homes in a cohesive and beautiful way, using the landscape as a unifying gesture.

Climate-responsive design: For new construction projects, we work collaboratively with architects through each project phase to test the location and orientation of your home as it relates to climate, views, water collection, and the expression of the landscape. We integrate seasonality into our design approach so that you can enjoy your landscape year-round.

Local materials and trade partners: We value timeless, durable, and sustainable materials and are well-connected to trusted sources for plants, boulders, paving and more. We work directly with many talented trade partners for fabrication or installation of special elements such as custom metal work, water features, or unique structures.
