Santa Fe Botanical Garden Master Plan

The Santa Fe Botanical Garden inhabits a site rich with history, culture, and diverse ecological conditions. The recent master plan reveals many hidden facets of the site by expanding garden areas while promoting conservation and biodiversity with the integration of the extended arroyo into an arboretum and wildlife sanctuary. Completed in collaboration with Lake Flato Architects, the master plan guides future development for this growing institution.

  • Following significant growth in visitation, memberships, educational programming and events, the Santa Fe Botanical Garden aspired to expand beyond their present footprint to expand guest services and enhance existing gardens to create a unified sense of place at Museum Hill. Master plan efforts focused on the creation of a sense of identity with new welcoming center; a new education center campus with library and small children’s garden tailored to young age groups; a crevice garden as a way of slowing down erosion by reinforcing slopes; a new event garden tailored toward weddings and revenue generation; unique garden spaces dedicated to Native Nation’s culture and heritage; a new bridge to allow multiple loops and routes for diversity of experience; expanded opportunities for art displays and rotating installations; and an overlook pavilion revealing the arroyo and expanded arboretum.
