Mediterranean and Lebanese Garden at the Albuquerque BioPark

The future Mediterranean / Lebanese Garden at the Albuquerque BioPark will showcase many of the landscape typologies, architectural features, plant species, and regional practices found throughout the Mediterranean region, with a focus on the Lebanese Garden in particular. As a new destination within the greater BioPark Botanic Garden, the purpose is to allow visitors to “travel to” and experience the culture, textures, sense of place of Lebanon and the Eastern Mediterranean.

  • The organization of the garden references the diverse ecotones and distinct plant collections within Lebanon and the Eastern Mediterranean basin, from the coast to the mountains to the valley. Features and plant collections will highlight the ties and commonalities between Albuquerque and Lebanon with specific narratives, and showcase plants of special significance — particularly endangered species or plants with sensory, culinary, medicinal, or beneficial use.
